“I’m Yael, a volunteer at “Being There for Them.”
I came here a few years ago, but I feel as if I’ve been here all my life. The amazing
girls I’ve come to know here managed to make a very, very major change in their
lives.
The story of Danit occupies a special place in my heart:
Danit came to us at age 19, after two very complex years.
Her parents are wealthy and always gave her everything she asked for. There was
just one thing she didn’t get from them — love.
Her parents were too immersed in work and in their business. Danit searched for a
place where she could get the warmth and attention she craved so much.
At age 17, she planned a two-month journey in India. There, she was exposed to an
ideology that brought her to severe hallucinations. Only after six months did she
agree to return to Israel.
The next year and a half were a time of confusion and intoxication for her. She
circulated with dubious characters. She had no future or direction to real life…
One day, she heard about us from a distant friend who was here in the Center.
I accepted her into my group. We underwent a process that was long and
challenging, but full of fulfillment and glimmers of light. She transformed into a new
girl, and after studying a vocation, she started a respectable job.
But her true revolution was completed when she came half a year ago to join the staff
at the Center.
Today, she herself helps girls who are in a situation she is so closely familiar with —
to change, succeed, and grow in the place that’s best for them.
